Grey Water Gardening Tips
Grey Water can be easily and safely re-used in the garden. Here are some additional guidelines to help you:
- Wait for the grey water to cool before watering your garden. Use your WaterGreen to move it where needed or store it temporarily in a water butt.
- More sensitive plants, such as seedlings, rooting cuttings or very young plants won’t appreciate grey water if it is full of chemicals. This might be the time to cut down on the soaps and detergents you use – its much better for the skin.
- The grey water will contain some soaps and detergents, these are not always suitable for acid-loving plants eg camellias or rhododendrons
- When storing in a water butt, don’t store grey water for extended periods or in very warm weather.
Remember, your WaterGreen is the easiest way to get your grey water to where it is needed.

Waterwise advice for the garden
To keep your garden blooming this summer, without wasting water, just follow these simple tips:

Catch all the rain you can in a water butt. Plants love rain water.
Water your garden with a watering can
Garden sprinklers uses over 1,000 litres of water per hour, more than a family of four in 1 day.
Water the roots of garden plants
It's much better to water the roots of a plant, rather than the leaves.
Cover the ground
Apply mulch to cover the ground around plants, it will lock in moisture and help prevent weeds.
Keep it long
Don't cut the lawn too short.
Set priorites for watering
Plants in containers need to be watered more often than those planted in the ground.
Drought tolerant plants
Some plants really like dry conditions and if you've got a sandy or free draining soil, these plants will love it. Small leaves and hairy, waxy, leathery or succulent leaves are all signs that a plant could be drought tolerant.
